Sexual function is an issue that has received little attention among women with HIV infection. However, a new study indicates that HIV-positive women may have more problems with such function than HIV-negative women.
As part of the ongoing WIHS study, 1279 HIV-positive women and 526 HIV-negative women completed a one-time, self-administered 19-item survey on sexual satisfaction and problems with sexual function. The survey was scored in such a way that women who reported little or no sexual activity could have been categorized as having sexual dysfunction, even if the abstinence was intentional.
