In December 2010, the FDA approved new formulations or label changes for three antiretrovirals.
Etravirine now comes in a 200-mg tablet, reducing the pill burden to one tablet twice daily. The new formulation is uncoated, but its texture might not be as chalky as that of the 100-mg tablets; tests conducted by the company show that the new tablet is easier to swallow. Like the old formulation, the new one can be dispersed in water, if patients prefer to take it that way.
