Various interventions have been designed to improve HIV treatment adherence or reduce risk behaviors, but few have been designed to do both. One such intervention was recently tested in a randomized controlled trial conducted among 436 HIV-infected patients in Atlanta (mean age, 44; 71% men; 91% black). About 70% of participants were receiving potent antiretroviral therapy.
The intervention involved two individual sessions and five group sessions, all focused on effective decision making around treatment adherence and risk behavior.
