The potential link between abacavir and an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been the topic of many studies since the possibility of an association was first raised at CROI in 2008. Recently, though, the data have been swirling around so furiously that one can barely keep up. Here is a rundown of some notable recent studies:
An FDA meta-analysis of 26 randomized controlled trials, presented at CROI this year, showed no association between abacavir and myocardial infarction (MI).1 A major strength of this study was that it minimized selection bias.
