Interest in the investigational combination antiretroviral “Quad” tablet containing tenofovir, FTC, elvitegravir, and cobicistat has been fueled largely by results announced only in press releases. At the CROI 2012 meeting in Seattle, more-complete data were presented from two parallel, manufacturer-supported, phase III clinical trials — one comparing Quad with the fixed-dose combination of tenofovir/FTC/efavirenz (Atripla) and one comparing it with tenofovir/FTC + ritonavir-boosted atazanavir.
