HIV-infected patients have a higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease, including myocardial infarction (MI), than the general population, but the factors underlying this excess risk are still being evaluated. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors, exposure to certain antiretrovirals, and ongoing HIV replication have all been found to be important. In this nested case-control study, researchers examined the role of virologic and immunologic parameters on MI risk using the French Hospital Database.
