The Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) is the leading scientific meeting in the field, this year taking place for the first time in Atlanta. It was a site believed by some to be particularly fitting, given the location of the CDC (with its historically prominent role in HIV epidemiology) and the ongoing recognition that the epidemic in the U.S. is growing fastest in the Southeast. Featured prominently, once again, were presentations exploring the possibility of HIV cure, HIV prevention and engagement in care, noninfectious complications, and new antiretroviral strategies.
