As in the previous two CROI meetings, this year's conference featured advances in hepatitis C virus (HCV) therapy, with studies that involved both HIV/HCV-coinfected patients and those with HCV alone. Daniel Fierer from Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York described his clinical experience using pegylated interferon and ribavirin (PEG-IFN/RBV) plus telaprevir for 12 weeks in HIV-infected men with acute HCV infection [Abstract 156LB]. Of 40 potentially eligible individuals, 20 underwent treatment. The overall rate of sustained virologic response (SVR) 4 weeks after stopping treatment was 85% (17/20), with no unanticipated toxicities described.
