Following last week's grisly Boston Marathon bombings, Dr. Paul Sax received a question from a colleague regarding postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) after blast injuries. According to a 2008 guideline published in MMWR, PEP for HIV is not generally recommended after bombings or other mass casualty events. But, Dr. Sax says in his blog HIV and ID Observations, giving PEP is certainly defensible, guidelines notwithstanding.
