Although lipodystrophy has been a fact of life for quite some time among HIV-infected patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), statistics regarding its incidence and prevalence are still accumulating. On questionnaires completed during 2009 for an industry-supported study, HIV-treating physicians in France identified at least one sign of lipodystrophy in 830f a sample of patients receiving ART for at least a year (N=2131). This statistic included facial lipoatrophy in 54%, nonfacial lipoatrophy in 59%, lipohypertrophy in 57%, and mixed lipodystrophy (at least 1 sign of lipoatrophy and 1 sign of lipohypertrophy) in 42%.
