In his blog
HIV and ID Observations, Dr. Paul Sax makes the case for oral antibiotics.
Dr. Paul Sax is attending on the general medical service and has set a goal to teach the medical residents one ID-related thing each day. In the first of these “ID Learning Units” in his HIV and ID Observations blog, he notes that for patients who can take pills and are eating, intravenous antibiotics may be unnecessary, given the many oral options that are safe and less expensive. See a list of antibiotics with excellent oral absorption, and check HIV and ID Observations for more ID lessons.
