Is Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir Retreatment Indicated for Covid-19 Rebound?

Ever since early in the Covid-19 pandemic, clinicians have recognized that some patients have rebound of Covid-19 symptoms after initial improvement. Observational studies such as this one showed that Covid-19 rebound was more common in people who were treated with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir, although randomized trials did not confirm this association. Now, a manufacturer-sponsored, phase 2, randomized trial evaluates whether nirmatrelvir/ritonavir retreatment is indicated in people with Covid-19 rebound.
