Orforglipron is a new oral glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist recently approved for treating obesity, but its effects on glycemic control are also of interest, given the close overlap between obesity and diabetes. Two new industry-sponsored, phase 3 trials provide some insight.
The first trial involved 560 patients who had a body-mass index (BMI) ≥23 and type 2 diabetes being treated only with diet and exercise (mean body weight, 90 kg; mean glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c] level, 8%).
