Third-generation antiseizure medications (ASMs) are often used in the treatment of drug-resistant focal epilepsy, but few head-to-head trial data are available to guide the choice of agent. To address this gap, researchers conducted a pooled analysis of data from four multicenter medical record–review studies, focusing on the nearly 2000 patients age ≥16 who initiated cenobamate, brivaracetam, lacosamide, or perampanel as adjunctive therapy. Treatment response was defined as at least a 50% reduction in seizure frequency.
Brivaracetam and perampanel accounted for most prescriptions (50% and 30%, respectively).
