“Liquid biopsy” blood tests can detect cancer in its earliest stages, when symptoms have not yet appeared and imaging may not yet detect it. The clinical value of such early detection, however, is not yet established for most such tests. Now, an international team finds that a tumor-promoting inflammatory environment may help identify at-risk individuals before the cancer begins.
