With its exceptionally long half-life, intravenous dalbavancin is a convenient option for outpatient treatment of staphylococcal infections, including prosthetic joint infections (PJIs). But this drug has been shown to persist in serum for more than 3 months after the last dose, raising concern about the emergence of resistance among staphylococci in the host microbiome.
