Interventions for alcohol-dependent trauma patients are considered a key aspect of injury prevention. Investigators compared two brief interventions in a prospective randomized trial at a single level I trauma center. At-risk alcohol users were identified from among trauma patients admitted for more than 12 hours by their responses to the CAGE questionnaire, the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, and a version of the CAGE questionnaire for drug-use problems. Patients with severe drug or alcohol use were excluded.
