Periodontal disease, a common and chronic condition in adults, is characterized by bacterially caused inflammation that leads to destruction of connective tissue and alveolar bone. Left untreated, the condition can result in loosening and loss of teeth. Tobacco smoking is known to be the primary risk factor for the disease, but data on the potential risk from cannabis smoking do not exist.
