The GlideScope video laryngoscope eliminates most grade III and IV Cormack-Lehane views and has a higher intubation success rate than conventional direct laryngoscopy when performed by experienced intubators (JW Emerg Med May 2 2008). To determine whether these advantages extend to novice intubators, researchers randomized 202 elective general anesthesia patients without markers of difficult intubation to undergo intubation performed by minimally trained clinicians using either the GlideScope technique or direct laryngoscopy.
