Dear Readers,
This year, we introduce a new feature to our readers: Journal Watch Emergency Medicine Top Stories of 2008. We compiled two lists generated from two sources. First, our editors voted on the stories that they believe to be most important to you and your practices to create the Top 10 Editors’ Choice (listed in order of publication date). Second, we looked to you, our readers, for the Top 10 Most Read Online.
The two lists have some overlap and also some surprises. Two studies about urinary tract infection made the readers’ list, but neither tweaked the interest of the editors. The special essay on the use of etomidate in septic patients was both the second most-read posting and a top story on the editors’ list.
We hope that you will peruse these lists and consider reading the stories, even if you have read them before. In each case, our readers, editors, or both feel that the selected story is important to you and your practices. You might find your own personal favorite in one of these lists or discover some hidden pearls that somehow escaped your attention. Either way, please enjoy this new feature, and let us know what you think by sending us an e-mail at jwem@mms.org. By submitting your comment, you agree to abide by the Journal Watch User-Generated Content Guidelines.
Best wishes for 2009,
