Distinguishing between patients who would benefit from transport to a trauma center and those who can be safely transported to other receiving centers remains a challenge. Researchers in France prospectively developed and validated a simple prehospital scoring tool for predicting mortality in trauma patients. In an observational study of 1360 adult trauma patients who were transported to 22 centers, the researchers used logistic regression analysis to identify prehospital variables that were independently associated with death and allocated points based on the strength of each variable's association.
