Multitrauma patients with pelvic fractures are at risk for exsanguination from multiple sources, making management very challenging. Researchers in Germany retrospectively analyzed data from a multicenter pelvic injury registry to compare patient outcomes with angioembolization and with conventional measures for hemorrhage control. Of 152 patients with vascular injuries, 17 underwent angiography (all with effective angioembolization) and 135 received conventional treatment to control bleeding. The indication for angiography was computed tomography–proven pelvic fracture with associated vascular injury, hemodynamic instability, and a persistent drop in hemoglobin.
