To derive an algorithm for rapid rule-out of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) using high-sensitivity troponins, researchers analyzed data from a prospective, international, multicenter study of patients who presented within 12 hours of onset of acute chest pain suggestive of AMI. Patients on hemodialysis were excluded from the study, and those with ST-segment elevation MI were excluded from the current analysis.
Patients received standard care at their institution. Serum troponin was measured at presentation and at 1, 2, 3, and 6 hours using a high-sensitivity cardiac troponin-T (hs-cTnT) assay.
