In September 2006, posaconazole (Noxafil) received FDA approval for the prevention of invasive aspergillus or candida infections in patients aged ≥13 years who are at high risk for such infections (e.g., hematopoietic stem-cell transplant recipients with graft-versus-host disease, and individuals with hematologic malignancies and prolonged periods of neutropenia due to chemotherapy). Posaconazole joins fluconazole, itraconazole, and voriconazole on the list of triazole antifungals available in the U.S.
