Many cancers have been associated with immune deficiency, and increased cancer risk has been noted in both HIV-infected people and immunosuppressed transplant recipients compared with the general population. To compare the patterns of risk between these two patient groups, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 12 population-based cohort studies, 7 of patients with HIV/AIDS and 5 of solid-organ transplant recipients. These studies were based on confirmed cancers, mostly in adults, from registries in North America, Europe, and Australia.
