The tuberculin skin test (TST) is still widely used to screen for latent or active TB. However, its specificity is limited by the cross-reactivity of the antigens used, and its sensitivity is low among immunocompromised individuals. Interferon-γ blood tests have shown greater specificity than the TST, but how do they perform in immunocompromised patients? To find out, researchers in Japan compared an interferon-γ test (Quantiferon TB-2G; QFT-TB) with the standard TST in immunocompromised patients with suspected TB based on radiographic findings.
