The Global Project on Anti-Tuberculosis Drug Resistance Surveillance, funded in part by Eli Lilly, has been active since 1994. To explore the latest trends in resistance, project researchers analyzed data from >90,000 patients in 83 countries and territories who received a diagnosis of pulmonary TB between 2002 and 2007. Drug-susceptibility results were quality assured by supranational reference laboratories.
Seventy-five countries and territories provided data on new TB cases. A median of 6.7% of such cases per country or territory were isoniazid (INH) resistant; in 17 settings, the prevalence of INH resistance was >15%.
