Cryptococcosis is the third most common invasive fungal infection among solid-organ transplant recipients, and among those with cryptococcal disease, meningitis has been documented in 54% to 68%. Although amphotericin B deoxycholate (D-AmB) has been the mainstay of treatment for cryptococcal meningitis (CM) for decades, lipid formulations of amphotericin B (L-AmB) are less nephrotoxic and are associated with fewer infusion-related adverse effects than this agent.
