Concerns about the safety of the 2009 H1N1 vaccines have been kindled by the association seen in 1976 between H1N1 vaccination and an increased risk for Guillain-Barré syndrome. To ensure maximal detection of adverse events related to the current vaccines, the CDC has reviewed data from two vaccine surveillance networks.
From July 1 through November 24, 2009, the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) received 3783 reports of adverse events following H1N1 vaccination; 204 were deemed serious.
