RNA interference — the inhibition of gene expression by small, double-stranded RNA molecules — is believed to have potential in the treatment of genetic disorders, malignancy, and infections (JW Infect Dis Jun 28 2004). By impeding expression of the nucleocapsid protein of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the small interfering RNA ALN-RSV01 has shown promising effects in a murine model of RSV infection (Nat Med 2005; 11:50).
