Nitrofurantoin is now recommended for acute uncomplicated cystitis. Other suggested antibiotics include trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), trimethoprim alone, and — where available — pivmecillinam or single-dose fosfomycin, although the latter may be inferior to the other regimens.
