Severe sepsis, despite optimal care, is often fatal. Several previous studies have shown that compliance with the Surviving Sepsis Campaign's 6-hour resuscitation and 24-hour management bundles can decrease mortality. In a recent prospective cohort study, researchers assessed such compliance in 150 intensive care units (ICUs) in 16 Asian countries. A total of 1285 adult patients with severe sepsis (10.9% of all ICU admissions during the study period) were followed until discharge from — or death in — the hospital.
