Efficacy of a Live-Attenuated Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine

After decades of research, several dengue virus (DENV) vaccine candidates are in early clinical or preclinical development. In a recent manufacturer-funded, phase IIb trial conducted in Thailand, investigators assessed the protective efficacy of CYD-TDV, a recombinant, live-attenuated tetravalent vaccine based on the yellow fever 17D vaccine strain and administered in three injections.

Healthy children aged 4 to 11 years were randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive CYD-TDV or a control product — rabies vaccine or placebo — at months 0, 6, and 12.
