Investigators for the Women’s International Study of long Duration Oestrogen after Menopause (WISDOM) have now reported results. Participants were postmenopausal women (median age, 62.8 years) from general practices in the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand. The study goal was to assess the long-term risks and benefits of combined hormone therapy (HT, estrogen plus progestogen) versus placebo, and of estrogen-only therapy versus combined HT. Primary outcomes of interest were major cardiovascular disease, osteoporotic fractures, and breast cancer.
