Hypertension is a major risk factor for adverse cardiovascular events, but scarce data are available about blood pressure control in patients with other cardiovascular risk factors. In a cross-sectional, population-based study, investigators used 2003–2004 data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to analyze the prevalence, treatment, and control of hypertension among U.S. adults with or without the following cardiovascular comorbidities: coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic kidney disease (CKD), peripheral arterial disease (PAD), diabetes, dyslipidemia, and the metabolic syndrome.
