During primary percutaneous coronary intervention for ST-segment-elevation MI, adjunctive administration of intravenous (IV) abciximab reduces the incidence of subsequent adverse cardiac events. To explore whether delivery of abciximab directly to the site of obstruction might further improve outcomes, investigators randomized 154 patients undergoing PCI for STEMI to receive the bolus dose of abciximab by either an IV or an intracoronary (IC) route.
