Although a primary goal of caring for patients who have survived an acute MI is the minimization of symptoms of coronary artery disease, remarkably little is known about the prevalence of angina and the risk factors for this potentially disabling symptom after MI treatment. This study included 1957 patients who survived 1 year after hospital admission for MI at 19 U.S. hospitals participating in the Prospective Registry Evaluating Myocardial Infarction: Events and Recovery (PREMIER). More than 90% of participants underwent angiography during the index hospitalization. The presence and frequency of angina was ascertained using a standardized, validated questionnaire.
