Elevation of the cardiac biomarker creatine kinase-MB after percutaneous coronary intervention is associated with adverse short- and long-term events, although the mechanism underlying this association is debated. Cardiac troponin T (cTnT) is a more sensitive marker of myonecrosis than is CK-MB. In this study, investigators at the Mayo Clinic evaluated the relative effect on survival of cTnT levels measured before and after PCI.
Included were 5487 patients undergoing nonemergency PCI from November 1, 2000, through October 31, 2005.
