Despite consistent negative findings from trials of aspirin for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, published guidelines provide inconsistent recommendations about aspirin use in high-risk individuals without manifest cardiovascular disease, particularly patients with diabetes or asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
