To examine recent trends in the incidence, management, and mortality rate of cardiogenic shock in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), investigators analyzed data from the Acute Myocardial Infarction in Switzerland Plus Registry. Between January 1, 1997, and December 31, 2006, 1977 patients (8.3% of all ACS patients) experienced cardiogenic shock. Cardiogenic shock was present on admission in 564 patients and developed after admission in 1413 (6.0% of all ACS patients and 71.5% of those with cardiogenic shock).
