In this substudy of the Acute Catheterization and Urgent Intervention Triage Strategy (ACUITY) trial, investigators sought to identify predictors of stent thrombosis (ST) in 3405 moderate- and high-risk patients with acute coronary syndromes. All participants received at least one stent (89% drug-eluting) and underwent quantitative coronary angiography before and after stent implantation.
Early ST (within 30 days postimplantation) occurred in 48 patients (1.4%) a median of 5 days after implantation. Patients with definite (n=32) or probable (n=16) ST had high rates of death (27%) and MI (79%). The rate of early ST was similar in drug-eluting and in bare-metal stent recipients.
