In this randomized trial, investigators asked whether the usual 18-hour infusion of eptifibatide after elective percutaneous coronary intervention could be abbreviated. After uncomplicated elective PCI, 624 patients were randomized to 18-hour (standard) or ≤2-hour (brief) eptifibatide infusion. All patients received double-bolus eptifibatide before PCI. After the procedure, open-label eptifibatide was discontinued immediately in patients with adequate preprocedural clopidogrel loading, and assigned study treatment (eptifibatide or placebo) was started.
