Focused Update: ST-Segment-Elevation MI and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

New recommendations help clarify how and when to treat acute coronary syndromes.

Background and Purpose: These guidelines were last updated in 2007. Since then, numerous new trials have been published, addressing management of acute coronary syndromes and ST-segment-elevation MI as well as new drugs. For the first time, the recommendations for STEMI and percutaneous coronary intervention are combined in a joint update. These guidelines are of primary interest to interventional cardiologists but also affect the practices of clinical cardiologists and emergency department physicians.
