Female sex is a risk factor for arrhythmic events in individuals with long-QT syndrome (LQTS), a congenital disorder with two common genotypes (LQT1 and LQT2). According to previous studies, women with LQTS, particularly those with LQT2, are at heightened risk for events during adolescence and postpartum (JW Cardiol Apr 11 2007).
