Stress cardiomyopathy (SC), a relatively new clinical entity, refers to transient left ventricular (LV) dysfunction associated with stressful events. To better define the clinical spectrum and features of the disorder, researchers identified 256 patients (mean age, 69; 81% aged >50; 89% women) who met the diagnostic criteria for SC at seven tertiary care centers in Europe and North America between January 2005 and October 2010. Comprehensive cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging was performed in 239 patients (93%). All patients underwent echocardiography and cardiac catheterization.
