Enoxaparin is a low molecular-weight heparin with pharmacodynamic effects that are more predictable than those of unfractionated heparin (UFH). In a prospective, open-label, randomized, multicenter, manufacturer-supported trial, investigators randomized 910 anticoagulation-naive patients (mean age, 60; 22% women) with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) to receive an intravenous bolus of enoxaparin (0.5 mg/kg) or UFH before primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
