Norman Silverman questions whether the FDA has approved the use of TAVI too early because of pressure from “patient advocates” and hospitals that are feeling the pinch of the “present medicoeconomic state of cardiac surgery.” He supports a more thorough FDA review of TAVI and says, “Sometimes to protect the public the public must be protected from their own whims and ways.” Do you agree?
