In patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis who are ineligible for surgical aortic-valve replacement or at high operative risk, transcatheter aortic-valve replacement (TAVR) is an important treatment option; however, given the novelty of the procedure, real-world safety data are scarce. To provide a realistic estimate of serious complications associated with TAVR, investigators conducted a meta-analysis of studies involving ≥100 patients listed in PubMed through May 5, 2012. Of 149 eligible studies, two thirds were duplicate publications or cohorts and excluded from the analysis, and 49 studies involving 16,063 patients were included.
