Five-Year Results of the SYNTAX Trial

In the final analysis, most outcomes were better with CABG than with PCI in patients with at least moderately severe left main or three-vessel disease.

In the SYNTAX trial, investigators compared percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with left main or three-vessel coronary artery disease. The previously reported 1-year results showed similar rates of death and myocardial infarction (MI) with both procedures, more strokes with CABG, and more repeat revascularization procedures with PCI (JW Cardiol Feb 18 2009). The SYNTAX investigators now present their final results after 5 years of follow-up.
