A safe and effective home treatment for infantile hemangiomas would be welcomed by dermatologists and families. Facial hemangiomas can be particularly frustrating for families, as the lengthy wait for spontaneous involution can be psychosocially difficult.
Investigators performed a retrospective chart review of the response of hemangiomas to topical imiquimod. A total of 22 hemangiomas were treated in 18 children (median age, 18 weeks; range, 4–256 weeks). Of the hemangiomas, 16 were superficial, 3 were deep, and 3 were mixed type. In 10 patients, imiquimod was applied 3 times weekly, and in 8 patients, it was applied 5 times weekly, for a mean duration of 17 weeks (range, 7–46 weeks).
